Quilters Threads Newsletterhttp://www.quiltersthreads.com EXCITING CHANGE AT QUILTER'S THREADS |
|
|
An
exciting change is about to take place at
http://www.quiltersthreads.com.
We have been slaving away at bringing up a new shopping cart that will
meet the need many of you have express. First, it will be more
reliable. We looked around to find one we had usd on other sites
ourselves and then we checked the reviews. We came up with shopping cart
software called Shopsite. We really like the way we can display much
nicer pictures of our wonderful products. Those of you who told us
you could not see our clothing pattern pictures well enough will be
pleased. Not only do we have clear pictures of the pattern envelop
front, but by clicking on the image of the front, you can also see the
back of most of the envelopes, to check back views and fabric
requirements. Some of the thread pictures are good enough to frame. We will keep working on obtaining the best possible pictures of our products. My husband and I take quite a few of them ourselves, but in the case of our threads, we often depend up on the manufacturer's images for colors. I had hoped to combine the announcement with this newsletter, but we need a few more days of testing, so in at the end of that time you will receive an announcement that the new shopping cart is available. check it out then and see how you like it.

Thank you for you kind emails on the death of my cat, Ollie. They were much appreciated. |

One of the things new quilters in particular have trouble with is deciding what colors to use in a quilt. Color is a personal thing. In fact, I often wonder if two people actually see a color in different ways. Perhaps when you see a color that I think of as purple, you are really seeing what I think of as orange. Color is of particular interest to me right now as I am getting ready for cataract surgery as soon as it can be scheduled. Perhaps I will be shocked at the colors I have been putting together once the cataracts are removed! Color has a lot to do with how we perceive a quilt. There are the bright rich colors that Pamela Allen uses that help to show us her sense of humor through her work, or the quiet colors of many of the current fabrics. Most of the time I like colors that show energy, but there are definitely times when soothing colors appeal. The old advice for new quilters is to look for a fabric where the colors in the print appeal to you and use that as a guideline for picking colors. Another suggestion is to look at pictures of quilts, clothing and rooms and see what color combinations do for you. Does your eye go straight to that lime green or do the blended blues of a seascape call more to you? Once we are no longer new quilters, most of us go by a certain amount of instinct when choosing colors. I think we always have a picture in our mind though of those fabricss that we love and we are looking for those colors when we choose fabrics. I have a different suggestion that I use for quilts, web sites and home decorating. There is a great color generator on the web that lets you quickly experiment with color combinations. It is found at http://wellstyled.com/tools/colorscheme2/index-en.html Take some time to play with all the option. I painted a bathroom a green similar to the green just below this. I went to this site and decided on cream and rose accents. My sister-in-law and I chose our web site colors with this generator. Have fun. |
