Old Boathouses of Bremanger (Norway) enhanced photo print on fabric by Eldrid Royset Forde. c 2007

I received this large postcard sized quilt - about 8.5 x 6 inches - for my last birthday from Eldrid. I screamed when I took it out of the envelope and I am not normally a screamer. It is even more wonderful in person than on the web. And it is mine!

Eldrid and I met in an online quilting guild in 2001. Carl and I were about to travel around Scandinavia, so Diane and Eldrid corresponded about what to see in Norway. The answer was - everything, the most beautiful place I have ever been in my life. It was a whole country full of Yosemites. Carl and Diane decided to visit with Eldrid at her home in small fishing/farming village on an island off the coast. It was a wonderful experience and since then Eldrid and I have felt like next door neighbors. She was asked to appear on Simply Quilts a couple of years later and after filming, Eldrid and Asbjørn came to Mukilteo Washington to visit us.(see photo on right) Eldrid is an English teacher. Asbjørn is a fisherman in the deep, dark and cold North Atlantic. We are definitely family to each other.

Eldrid makes Liturgical garments and school banners on commission. Her quilts are unique and exciting, her fabric stash is crammed full and a mess like mine. I have even sent her little pieces she needed for a quilt for her sister-in-law. She is an expert at photo printing on fabric and teaches online classes. Her web site is http://www.kameleonquilt.com. You will enjoy visiting it.
